Idaho Land Use Analysis

To understand the needs of local communities, build a plan to meet those needs, and provide transportation and housing choices for Idaho families, Idaho Smart Growth conducted a comprehensive analysis of Idaho laws, policies, rules, and permitting provisions at the state, county, and local levels. Partners on this project included the University of Idaho, Boise State University, the Urban Land Institute, and the Idaho Chapter of the American Planning Association.  The analysis was completed in 2010 and the executive summary is available here.

The University of Idaho has posted the comprehensive plans and ordinances gathered by this project online.

In 2011 and 2012, we focused on several specific recommendations:

  • designing a transportation and land use training with the Idaho chapter of the American Planning Association;
  • examining Idaho’s Area of City Impacts; and
  • engaging people in the Boise area long range transportation plan update.
