Idaho Smart Growth teams up with Radio Boise to go green

As part of building healthier communities in Idaho we have been looking at ways to promote the use of renewable energy. Idaho Power’s Green Power Program provides a way of offsetting the power produced by dams and coal with solar and wind energy. We decided to partner with Radio Boise, southwest Idaho’s community radio station, to get the word out to the largest possible audience. Radio Boise’s broadcast transmission uses a lot of energy—nearly as much as 5 homes. ISG is covering the cost premium to purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) to match that with 100% renewable energy! This means that ISG has now made Radio Boise the greenest radio station in Idaho! It also means that we are keeping 41 tons of CO2 out of our atmosphere–the equivalent of taking 7 cars off the road. And we receive radio underwriting credits that allow us to get our message about smart growth to a potential audience of more than 400,000 people.
