About our Speakers:
As we continue our 2019 CPA series, our September 4 session will look into how planning and zoning affects affordable housing. We are excited to welcome Daren Fluke and Bob Taunton as our speakers for this month.
Daren Fluke joined the City of Boise as the Comprehensive Planning Manager in 2013. He oversees a team of six city planners working on transportation and neighborhood planning, urban design, and land use policy. Notable projects completed during his tenure include the Downtown Boise Public Space/Public Life Study, the Transportation Action Plan, and the Downtown Parks and Public Spaces Plan and is currently preparing to launch a rewrite of the City’s zoning ordinance.
Daren previously worked as a Senior Planner and Project Manager with J-U-B Engineers, managed the current planning division at Ada County, and worked in long range planning with the City of Eugene. He holds degrees in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, a board member of the Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance, and served three terms as the president of the Idaho Chapter of the American Planning Association.
Bob Taunton’s career spans 40 years as a Canadian national park planner, senior city planner, consultant, and residential community developer. He spent 16 years as a Regional Manager and Division President with two public real estate companies leading the creation and development of master-planned communities. With a focus on community engagement, Bob has successfully planned and entitled over 30,000 residential units.
Since 2007 Bob has been President of Taunton Group, LLC based in Boise. Taunton Group provides strategic planning and land use entitlement services to both private and public sector clients.
Bob is a long-time member of the Urban Land Institute and has served on national Advisory Panels and presented at national conferences. He is a founding member of the ULI Idaho District Council and is a past Chair and Advisory Board member. Bob holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies (architecture) and a graduate degree in Environmental Studies (regional planning) from two Canadian universities.
