Bringing people and information together to find right-size solutions to creating affordable, accessible housing throughout the state for current and future Idahoans- and our kids and grandkids.
THE GOAL
We aim to create Idaho’s first comprehensive statewide strategic plan to meet our housing needs- finding the right size solutions for every size community.
THE PROGRAM
More than half of Idaho’s households are financially strained due to housing costs. Meanwhile, Idaho lacks a statewide housing plan that leverages all our tools to meet our greatest challenges. While some communities are making strides in planning for their future, resource-limited communities, especially in rural Idaho, are missing the tools to plan effectively. We aim to change that.
We know that more home choices near jobs, transit, local businesses, and schools connect communities and give everyone the chance to succeed.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Our moonshot goal?
Abundant, affordable homes where Idaho needs them most.
We aim to empower homebuilders, neighborhood leaders, and decisionmakers across the state to prepare communities where current and future Idahoans can afford to live, work and play.
How do we do this?
- Assess and build capacity throughout the state. Gathering input and goodwill with key stakeholders is an essential first step to developing our work plan.
- Fill in the gaps where existing local plans, policy tools, and data aren’t available. Find and pursue the funding and strategies that make sense.
- Create and disseminate the strategic plan as a “right size” toolkit for community leaders to advocate for more resilient neighborhoods, robust local business environments, and the open spaces Idaho is famous for.
- Monitor, report out, and update the strategy to maximize affordability and quality of life.

- Help us gain access to data tools and your networks! Is there a platform that helps with data? Want to help us gather input from your neighbors and colleagues? Let us know how we can partner!
- Join the Leadership Council! Become an advocate for the Moonshot and support our statewide coalition of housing advocates.
- Host a fundraising and awareness event! Many hands make light work as we expand our reach and improve our efforts.
- Bring us on board for potential projects! Let’s maximize the impact smart growth can have on affordability today.
- Share the plan! Promote the findings and recommendations from the moonshot plan with your organization and networks.
The Problem
Idaho is the second least affordable state, and housing costs are forcing many families to choose between paying their rent or mortgage and paying for essentials like food, healthcare, and more. Unless we work together to address this trend, we will continue to pay the price- as will our kids and grandkids.
The Solution
Idaho needs a plan that works for all of us. Our moonshot goal is to bring together leaders from every community. Businesses, policymakers, residents, and other key stakeholders will help us understand the unique challenges and opportunities of each community, and shape our strategy moving forward.
