THE GOAL
We aim to bring people together to share knowledge, learn from experiences, launch joint efforts, and celebrate the successes that continue to make Idaho a great place to live.
THE PROGRAM
Every year, Idaho Smart Growth and our partners throughout the state convene people across disciplines and experiences to learn together, tackle problems, and expand our coalition of smart growth partners. During the day, we hold conversations, panels, and workshops with subject matter experts and dedicated Idahoans. Summit presentations are accepted from all backgrounds and experiences, with the goal of building common knowledge and spurring creative solutions and partnerships.
We also celebrate the people, places, and projects that continue to make Idaho a great place to live. Nominations for the Smart Growth Awards are accepted year-round and reviewed by a panel of volunteers. Award recipients are meant to serve as models for future efforts to pursue smart growth principles across disciplines.
We aim to empower homebuilders, neighborhood leaders, and decisionmakers across the state to prepare communities where current and future Idahoans can afford to live, work and play.
Idaho Smart Growth wants to spur a discussion on how we can identify and better work together on Idaho priorities and coordinate, rather than compete, towards success on solutions that work for and in Idaho. We are especially interested in finding ways to accelerate action going forward for our organization as well as our many partners across the state without duplication of effort. This will be accomplished by a series of roundtables in the afternoon inviting every summit participant to express their thoughts, culminating at the end of the day with the beginning of a strategy to move forward together.
Learning
Idaho Smart Growth hosts our annual summit in the fall. Conversations and highlights from a broad array of communities explore the changes that are occurring in Idaho from the impacts of growth. Our theme for 2025 is coming soon, so stay tuned! Non-profit, governmental, and corporate representatives as well as individuals involved in addressing growth issues are invited to participate. Topics to be covered include Social Equity, Housing, Infrastructure/Preservation of Open Space/Working Lands and Preserving Community Identity.
Celebration
The Grow Smart Awards were established in 2005 to recognize exemplary efforts in planning and development that help create great places to live. Award recipients illustrate smart growth principles in a variety of ways. Recipients are selected by a jury of community leaders and industry professionals. Jury members are selected based on an illustration of solid knowledge of smart growth principles.
Smart Growth Summit
Everyone interested in growth issues and community development is invited to participate in the annual Smart Growth Summit. This event features discussions, workshops, and more from subject matter experts and neighborhood leaders throughout Idaho and beyond.

Smart Growth Award Recipients
Since 2005, Idaho Smart Growth has presented the annual Grow Smart Awards to celebrate planning and development efforts around Idaho that exhibit outstanding implementation of smart growth principles that help create great places to live.
