Idaho Smart Growth has selected Crispin Gravatt to lead the nonprofit organization.

“The board of directors for Idaho Smart Growth eagerly look forward to the next chapter under the leadership of Crispin Gravatt,” Idaho Smart Growth Board Chair Nathan Murray said. “We are excited for the new energy as we manage continued rapid growth in Idaho and promote our core principles across the state.”

Idaho Smart Growth is a nonprofit, nonpartisan team offering expertise and tools to keep Idaho communities vibrant and its lands healthy. The organization provides statewide support for the Safe Routes to School program and previously provided community assessments and training through the Citizens Planning Academy and recognition of valuable development projects at the annual Grow Smart Awards. It paused several programs after its previous program director, Elaine Clegg, was named the new CEO of Valley Regional Transit a year ago.

“I’m happy to see Idaho Smart Growth picking back up,” Clegg said. “I’ve known Crispin for a number of years and have been impressed with his knowledge and passion for growth and transportation issues.  I’m optimistic that he can revive enthusiasm for smart growth across the state and excited for this new chapter.”

Gravatt joins the team after eight years at the Idaho STEM Action Center, a state agency in the Office of the Governor. He also serves as the chair of Boise’s Public Works Commission, and was recognized among Idaho Business Review’s “Accomplished Under 40 Award” recipients in 2022.

“I am very excited to join the team at this pivotal moment,” Gravatt said. “Idaho is the fastest-growing state in the country, and I’m eager to build a coalition of Idahoans that can manage this growth while maintaining what makes this place such a great place to live.”

Gravatt plans to revive the Smart Growth Summit to bring together planners, policymakers, developers, and engaged residents to discuss Idaho’s growing pains and work toward solutions. He also aims to build broader awareness about smart growth principles in communities of all sizes and intends to continue supporting the Safe Routes to School program.
