The above picture shows a motorist stopped at a controlled intersection and about to turn left. A bicyclist is traveling in the bike lane against traffic to your right. Is it legal for a bicyclist to ride against traffic in a bike lane?
The Answer: NO
The Idaho State Code does not mention “bike lanes” nor riding against traffic while in them. It does, however, condemn failure to drive a vehicle on the right. Many officers and judges see a bicyclist traveling against traffic in a bike lane as they do a motorist heading the wrong direction in a traffic lane. Regardless, this is very dangerous. Neither oncoming bicyclist or motorist expect bicyclists to be traveling in a direction against traffic.
This answer is based on Idaho state code 49-637 (3); 49-630 (1); 49-714 (1); 49-717 (1)(2).
