The Question:
The above picture shows a car driving in the far left lane of a four lane one-way street. There are no bike lanes. As you approach an intersection you notice a bicyclist traveling in the far left side of the roadway. Is this legal?
The Answer: YES
On one way streets without a designated bike lane a bicyclist may travel with traffic on either the far left or far right side of the street. If a bike lane is marked on only one side of the street you may still ride on either side. In some communities, local ordinance require bicyclists to use a bike lane when present. Check your local traffic code to be sure.
